Our Take on Monte Vista, Colorado

Monte Vista, Colorado, meaning "Mountain Vista," is aplty named because the town has sweeping views of the surrounding mountains.  Visitors travel here from across the world for the annual Crane Festival, which takes place in February.  The migration of 20,000 Sandhill cranes to the area is a phenomenon that has been occuring for thousands of years, as expressed by petroglyphs found in surrounding rock faces.  The Crane Festival is a kid friendly event which features many types of wildlife, bird watching, live enterainment with dinner, concession stands, and many educational opportunities for children.

Meeker, Colorado has many things to do for the whole family.  Nearby is the Wildlife Refuge, a manmade wetland that harbors many species of waterfowl, geese, and herons.  For a unique and exciting experience, we recommend the alligator farm, where kids can take an alligator handling class, or dad can attempt to wrestle an alligator.    For Meeker accomodations, we recommend the pet friendly Best Western Movie Manor.  This is a one of a kind hotel which has most rooms facing the giant outdoor screen.  Sound is provided in the rooms.  For a romantic getaway, visit the Antero Hot Springs Cabins.  Stay in a rustic 100 year-old cabin, soak in the 110 degree hot spring in your backyard.
