Lake George Vacations, Tourism & Travel Information
Our Take on Lake George, Colorado
Lake George, Colorado, once a stagestop to Leadville, is a place filled with natural treasures. A great family vacation getaway, we recommend the Florissant Fossil beds. Here lies one of the greatest fossil beds in the world. This kid friendly site allows for a unique view of the distant past with its fossilized redwoods, and fossilized insect and plant life. Kids can earn their junior ranger badge by going to the visitor's center and picking up an activity book and completing the activities provided within.
Outdoor recreation is the center of tourism here in Lake George. ATV tours, backpacking, ballooning, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, mountaineering, hunting, and four wheeling are just some of the many exciting things to do here in the summer. In the winter months, there is ice skating, dogsledding, sleigh rides, and ice climbing. With a population of under 2,000 people, it is a friendly town with great Colorado cooking. For accomodations, we recommend any of the kid and pet friendly cabins on the lake, that provide for a relaxing and enjoyable stay in the great outdoors. The "Wagon Tongue Cabin" is one such place, which provides fully furnished privacy, and also makes for the ideal romantic getaway.
