OUR TAKE ON LA JUNTA
La Junta, Colorado, otherwise known as the "sleeping place," lies in the southwest of Colorado on the Arkansas River. It is home to two major tourist attractions, the Koshare Indian Museum and Bent's Fort. The Koshare Indian Museum has an incredible collection of Indian artifacts, claimed to be the finest in the world. The trading post invites you for an exclusive Native American shopping experience. In the museum, you will see the largest self supported log roof. We recommend you come to the museum when the Koshare Indian dancers are giving performances.
The second destination is Bent's Fort. An 1840s trading post right out of the old west, is a great place to take the kids, and they're pet friendly. Here, watch the old west come alive as performers and interpreters recreate the past with demonstrations and tours. Kids get to learn skills of the traders and craftsman in the 1800s. La Junta accomodations are standard pet friendly motels and hotels, but for a real Colorado adventure - try the excitinng KOA campground that offers plenty of recreational activities for the whole family. It is located only minutes from Bent's fort. Enjoy scenic hikes or visit one of the many surrounding lakes in the area for great fishing.
