Glenwood Springs Weekend with Kids

Glenwood Springs is a small town, about 8,000 people, on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. But it's got some big activities to keep your family busy over the course of a weekend. Like the world's largest natural hot springs pool, and the state's largest underground cave system. My kids have visited the town twice, and they wouldn't hesitate to go again if I asked. From the steaming hot springs to the old west flavor of the place, Glenwood Springs is going to make for one memorable weekend with the kids.

You don't spend a weekend in Glenwood Springs without visiting the world famous hot springs. Might as well make it easy on your entire family by staying at the lodge next to the hot springs pool. The room package includes unlimited access to the pool. I wish they had a better walkway from the lodge to the lockers, but it beats drivi... More >

There's nothing better than a homemade meal, and that's what we got at the Daily Bread Cafe. It's like the anti-Applebee's. Not only was everything fresh and tasty, but the portions were huge. My kids ate everything on their plate at breakfast. The place is in a great location on Main Street. It's popular with both tourists and locals, so expect a wait. But it will be worth it. Best omelet I've ever had.
This is a can't miss memory that your family will thank you for.
Kids love caves. So do adults, of course. The Caverns are part of a larger amusement-type park that includes a cable car, giant swing, zip lines, gravity coaster, mazes, and more. There's plenty to do here if you're claustrophobic and don't want to go inside the caves. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for kids, which gets you into the park. Add $10 more if you want a cave tour as well.
If your kids have studied the Old West, they've probably heard of the gunfight at the OK Corral, and Doc Holliday's role in it. Holliday died in Glenwood Springs and is supposed to be buried there. A good workout for your muscles before you go for a soak in the hot springs.
These wonderful hot pools are the big attraction in town. As the world's largest natural hot springs pool, I guess they'd be big in any town! Your kids, like mine did, will drop their jaws at the steaming water when they first see them. Not long after we started soaking, the snow began to fall. The mood was magical. Your kids, like mine did, will drop their jaws at the steaming water when they first see them. Not long after we started soaking, the snow began to fall. The mood was magical. This is a can't miss memory that your family will thank you for. Oh, and your aches and pains will thank you too. If you can sneak away from the kids, the Spa of the Rockies offers a full range of treatments. Prices for just the use of the pools ranges from $9 to $18 depending on age and day of the week.
Might as well make it easy on your entire family by staying at the lodge next to the hot springs pool.
