Summer in Tahoe City

Tahoe is so well known for its winter activities that its summer charms sometimes go overlooked. In warmer weather, the lake is blue and pristine, although it remains pretty chilly year round, and the hiking and horseback riding are unparalleled!

The Tahoe Rim Trail is a 165-mile loop around the lake's entire perimeter. It's open year round to hikers, equestrians, and skiers, and about half its length is available for mountain biking, too. There are two trailheads in Tahoe City; the best time for hiking is usually from July to September.
Locals adore this burger-and-beer joint for its excellent food and friendly service. On hot days, the outdoor seating is prime territory, with big umbrellas to shade guests who have already had their fill of sunshine.

There's no better way to spend a sunny day in Tahoe than on the lake itself. Whether you're swimming, fishing, boating, or cruising on a Jet Ski, you may find yourself more than a little distracted by the stunning scenery!
At Sugar Pine Nature Center, Tahoe's native flora and fauna are explained in a way that's accessible and fun even for children. There's a day-use fee for the state park in which the nature center is located, but admission to the center itself is free.
