Family Fun in Tahoe City

Tahoe City is a beautiful town right on the shores of Lake Tahoe. There's plenty to do here in any season, with a multitude of shops and restaurants, and natural beauty galore. There's a great bike path that runs through town, where you can stroll, skate or bike with wonderful views of the lake. You can also walk or ride out of town on another scenic path, along the Truckee River.

The Franciscan is quiet and unassuming. There are cute cottages on the edge of Lake Tahoe. My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon, and we had a deck right on the lake. There's a jacuzzi ideal for soaking in after a day or skiing or hiking.

I love this place. This is one of my favorite places to go in Tahoe in the summer. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, but my favorite is lunch out on the big deck overlooking the lake on a warm sunny day. It tends to be crowded, but that's part of the fun. Excellent clam chowder, burgers and fries, and mud pie for dessert.
It recently moved from the shores of the lake, across the street to the edge of the river.
The Bridge Tender is a fun little spot located right where the Truckee River comes out of Lake Tahoe. It recently moved from the shores of the lake, across the street to the edge of the river. Best in the summer when you can ride you bike over and sit out in the sun while enjoying a beer and a sandwich or salad.
This is a nice low-key ski area. Known for being less crowded than it's neighbor, Squaw Valley, Alpine is popular with families. The varied terrain caters to everyone from novices to experts, skiers to snowboarders.
