One Day in Stinson Beach

Although, only a 38 minute ride from San Francisco, Stinson Beach is another world entirely. As you descend the flanks of Mount Tamalpias toward the remote seaside town, it will become apparent that this village, with its spectacular scenery, is unique and unmatched. You can easily spend an entire day with the kids playing on the white sand beach, lying in the sun, reading, or just dreamily taking in the scope of sea and mountains that surrounds you. You may also choose to visit the Audubon Canyon Ranch or hike the lovely trails in the area.

The Sandpiper Inn is located right in the town of Stinson Beach. Large clean rooms are cloistered among gardens. You will be a short walk from the beach and town (with its restaurants and bars), and just a drive to Muir Woods, Mount Tamalpias and the town of Bolinas.
Right on the main town strip of Stinson Beach (coastal highway 1) the historic Sand Dollar Restaurant offers moderately priced dinners--from seafood to filet mignon--and beer battered fish and chips, gourmet burgers and fresh salads for lunch. They also offer a tasty brunch on weekends.

This adorable vintage motel that has been newly remodeled. Set among garden foliage the motel's three courtyards almost always have shrubs in bloom. You have the choice of a room with a kitchen. Room rates are between $95 and $225 depending on the room and the day (weekdays are cheaper).
It costs money to get on this beach but once there you will see why. Stinson beach is a breathtaking expanse of white sand set in front of beautiful rugged coastal mountains that rise just beyond the seaside village.
For local beach color you must go to the Parkside Cafe for breakfast or lunch. For a while there were some rumors that this establishment had lost that-certain-something but now the Parkside Cafe is back, and better than ever. This restaurant is practically on the beach.
This 10 mile loop up to Mountain home is strenuous but absolutely stunning.
Set on the Bolinas Lagoon Audobon Canyon Ranch a secreted in a lush and verdant canyon. Call ahead to sign up for one of the many splendid naturalist field trips.
This 10 mile loop up to Mountain home is strenuous but absolutely stunning. You will rise above Stinson Beach to see panoramic views of the ocean. Eventually, you will find yourself in soft Redwood forests. This trail will take most of a day.

I am the Vice President of an international, non-profit conservation organization, Save the Turtles, Inc. My eight years as a hands-on VP has provided me with plenty of experience writing web content, proposals, ad copy, brochures, fliers, promotional material, letters of inquiry (the list could go on and on.) Writing for Save the Turtle's website has provided me with great exposure to the concepts and practices of SEO. It seems that we have done rather well as our Google ranking is most often number one on the page. Although, I am still on the board of Save the Turtles and every bit as passionate about saving endangered species as ever, I am currently also enjoying another incarnation as a freelance writer. I love, love, love writing travel blogs! Lately, I have been writing for Uptake.com. and Mynatour, an eco-travel site based in London. I have also written an number of articles for other sites covering such wide-ranging topics as health, food, real estate, and science. My goal, with each writing assignment, is to match each clients individual needs by writing with an appropriate "voice" and level of readability for each unique, target audience. Please feel free to scroll and read!
