A Local's Look at San Rafael

San Rafael is the largest town in Marin County. It's not quite a city, but a large enough town to have pretty much everything you need. Every Thursday night in the summer, about a half mile of 4th street is closed to vehicles for the Farmers' Market. The streets are filled with people, farmers selling produce, vendors selling clothing, artwork and sunglasses, and a variety of carts selling reasonably-priced ethnic food. There are usual several live bands, and jumping castles and pony rides for the kids.

This is a cute and romantic little bed and breakfast in a fairly quiet residential area of San Rafael. It's a homey place with a fabulous breakfast included. The restaurant downstairs is also great for dinner, and they have jazz two nights a week. It's a short walk to Safeway or to downtown San Rafael.
Located just off the freeway in downtown San Rafael, this little corner restaurant is known serving delicious Puerto Rican food at reasonable prices. In the summer, you can sometimes catch a large Latin band playing on the patio.
Come early for a good seat.
The Mayflower is an authentic British-style pub that serves classic hearty pub fare, such as Bangers and Mash, Shepherd's Pie, and Fish and Chips, at moderate prices. The waitstaff is friendly, and the atmosphere is casual, with a strong local following. Thursday is Trivia Night, beginning at 7:30. Come early for a good seat.

A fun place to stop for a beer or a meal. Excellent fish tacos, salads, and of course, freshly brewed beer! Conveniently located on 4th St. in downtown San Rafael, so you can come in during the Thursday night Farmers' Market. Tends to get a little busy. Outside seating available.
