Do it like a local, a weekend guide to San Francisco

San Francisco is beautiful and ideally suited for couples, and here are my suggestions for the perfect romantic getaway. Be sure to include at least one museum, a great place for dinner, and a unique, only-in-San-Francisco adventure.

Walking into SFMOMA is so inspiring - while I love to come with my kids, I enjoy nothing more than a few hours with my honey, exploring the various exhibits. And no trip is complete without a visit to the bookstore downstairs for unique and interesting items for my creativity box at home.

Ferry Building Marketplace
Walking among the food and homeware stalls inside the Ferry Building is a lovely way to spend the afternoon. Stop by Cowgirl Creamery and Acme Bread, and the Ferry Building Wine Shop, for tasty treats for an impromptu picnic across the street. Do it like a local, and arrive early Saturday morning for the outdoor Farmer's Market.

My all time favorite romantic restaurant in San Francisco, serving fresh, local, seasonal cuisine with a little bit of San Francisco flair. Delightful cocktails, interesting appetizers and perfectly sized desserts. Open for lunch too!

Palace of Fine Arts
Gorgeous place to stroll hand-in-hand and enjoy a picnic. Just a short walk away from the Marina District of San Francisco, which includes shops and restaurants.

Hotel Vitale-Embarcadero
Across the street from the Ferry Building, and located near ample public transportation, the Hotel Vitale is the perfect base for a romantic visit to San Francisco. With rooftop views of the Bay Bridge, as well as a mighty fine in-house restaurant, you almost have enough reasons never to leave at all!
