One Day in North Beach

The old school Italian neighborhood between Market Street and Fisherman's Wharf is one of my favorite neighborhoods in San Francisco. From the strip clubs, to the old fashioned gin joints, to the incredible smell of cooking garlic permeating the air, I can't get enought of this place when I'm up by the Bay.

In a city where a $300 dollar room is considered normal, we'll take a night at this hotel for around $200 instead. From a quick and cheap bagel 'n cream cheese, to several varieties of omelets, you'll find a great no-nonsense breakfast here at Pat's. Try the great pancakes or a plain 'ol bacon and eggs to get your day off to a great start. Under $10 per person.
Small parking lot on top so it'd be easier to take the #39 bus up.

San Francisco's other icon is here, just up on top of Telegraph Hill. Small parking lot on top so it'd be easier to take the #39 bus up. Great depression era artwork in the bottom, infinite views from the top. $5
If you're here on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday, swing by one of the state's best farmer's markets located in front of the old ferry building at the end of Market Street. Fresh, wholesome, and delicious produce to be bought for a quick meal or snack later. Free.
Bring your farmer's market snacks back to this pretty park in the middle of North Beach for a little picnic. See that church? That's where local boy Joe Di Maggio married Marilyn Monroe. You've also seen this park in many movies, such as Dirty Harry. Free.

This crowded, busy place next door to Beach Blanket Babylon serves great food in the family style, like a Basque restaurant. Soup tureen, salad bowl, pasta, entree, all the way to dessert. They'll always find a place to squeeze you in, even during the rush, and will treat you like family. I particularly like the veal canneloni. Around $20 per person. More
