San Diego Vacations, Tourism & Travel Information

Overview

What most people expect to find when they travel to San Diego is a care-free Southern California city, laden with miles of beautiful beaches and surrounded by a rugged desert-like terrain. While that's a pretty fair picture of San Diego, many people don't know that the city is just as packed with cultural attractions that deserve a considerable amount of attention themselves. While that's a pretty fair picture of San Diego, many people don't know that the city is just as packed with cultural attractions that deserve a considerable amount of attention themselves. Located near the U.S.-Mexico Border, San Diego is the site of California's first permanent European settlement. Get a sense for what San Diego might have been like in the nineteenth century at Old Town, a neighborhood that's home to a collection of historic buildings, museums, and living history demonstrations. For a more modern look at the arts, Balboa Park is second-to-none in terms of its sheer volume of fantastic attractions. The world-famous San Diego Zoo is just one of the must-sees at Balboa Park, which is also the site of several museums, a theater, a historic carousel, and a variety of fountains and gardens. Thanks to a warm, summer-like climate year-round, almost every day of the year is a beach day in San Diego; so join the locals at any of a number of the sandy spots along the Pacific Ocean for surfing, sunbathing or swimming. The hills to the east of San Diego provide ample opportunities for mountain biking and hiking, and from spots like the Cabrillo National Monument, you can get a bird's-eye view of San Diego and its surrounding communities. Whether your plans include museum-hopping and fine dining, toting the kids to classic childhood attractions like SeaWorld, or just enjoying climate and conditions that make it an outdoor lover's paradise, it can all be found in sunny San Diego.
