Sacramento Weekend with the Kids

Sacramento is a kid-friendly town, that's for sure. If you stay at the Hyatt you can just step outside and walk through the lovely park-like grounds of the Capitol, then take a tour of this lovely historic building. There are amusement parks, a zoo, fun restaurants and a 28 acres of revived old-town Sacramento. After a hard day of kid-friendly fun return to the lavishly appointed Hyatt Regency Hotel to swim, eat a fine meal and soak in a hot tub. One of the best things about the Hyatt in Sacramento is that kids stay for free!

Kids stay for free in this lovely 4 star hotel that is right across from the state Capitol Rotunda. The rooms are spacious and include large beds, deluxe bath, flat screen TV. The hotel has many amenities including 2 on-site restaurants, heated pool, and whirlpool
For a kid-approved change of pace from the fancy Hyatt Hotel cuisine try the Squeeze Inn hamburger joint. This place was voted " best burger" in the area from 2007--2010! They offer both ginormous burgers and burgers for the smaller appetite, veggie burgers, sandwiches, tacos, salads and more.
Visit the railroad museum and take a ride in a steam engine train, visit an old schoolhouse that has been authentically restored and peruse the many shops.

Take the kids out for an ice cream treat. Gunther's has charming 1940's decor and wow-factor ice cream. If you can get a seat here you can also have lunch but the place is small so don't count on it. Gunther's offers a huge variety of ice cream flavors and concoctions like sundaes, shakes, splits, the whole nine yards.

Funderland is an amusement park for the little ones (kids 2-8) with age-appropriate rides. They will love the little dragon roller coaster, jungle gym rides, live pony rides, and more.
Close to Funderland, drop by Fairytale Town to give the kids a full day of fun. This 2.5 acre park has over 25 imaginative play sets that make kids feel like they really are in Fairyland. Fairytale Town also has a menagerie of animals: Mary's little lambs, three little pigs, Peter Rabbit, Eeyore the Donkey and more.
This place was voted " best burger" in the area from 2007--2010!
Old Sacramento--the original gold rush town--is 28 acres of preserved history. There are more preserved historic buildings here than in any other California gold rush town. Visit the railroad museum and take a ride in a steam engine train, visit an old schoolhouse that has been authentically restored and peruse the many shops. There is so much to do here, take the whole family and make a day of it. More

I am the Vice President of an international, non-profit conservation organization, Save the Turtles, Inc. My eight years as a hands-on VP has provided me with plenty of experience writing web content, proposals, ad copy, brochures, fliers, promotional material, letters of inquiry (the list could go on and on.) Writing for Save the Turtle's website has provided me with great exposure to the concepts and practices of SEO. It seems that we have done rather well as our Google ranking is most often number one on the page. Although, I am still on the board of Save the Turtles and every bit as passionate about saving endangered species as ever, I am currently also enjoying another incarnation as a freelance writer. I love, love, love writing travel blogs! Lately, I have been writing for Uptake.com. and Mynatour, an eco-travel site based in London. I have also written an number of articles for other sites covering such wide-ranging topics as health, food, real estate, and science. My goal, with each writing assignment, is to match each clients individual needs by writing with an appropriate "voice" and level of readability for each unique, target audience. Please feel free to scroll and read!
