A Local's Recommendation for Rohnert Park

I spent some time going to college in this town so I feel like I have sort of earned the right to call myself "a local". There is a side to this bedroom community that few people will ever see as they blast by on the freeway, things like: Crane Creek Park, The Old Adobe, and the Cotati Jazz Festival. This is a college town and Sonoma State University offers some great performances of plays, dance, and music, as does the Spreckles Performing Art Center. Stay in the lovely Gables Bed & Breakfast and you will feel like you are a million miles from Rohnert Park and the world.

You can find any kind of Holiday Inn type thing you want in Rohnert Park, but drive up the road a piece you can also stay somewhere that is entirely unique and unforgettable. The Gables, a vintage restored Victorian mansion, is the perfect place for romance and just plain old getting away from it all.
Come and partake of the biggest little Jazz Festival in Sonoma county. Set in Cotati's town plaza (next to Rohnert Park) the 31st Jazz festival will feature free admission, food and beer (er, you have to pay for the food and beer, sorry). Establishments such as bars, restaurants that are on the plaza will also be open for business.
This is an absolutely gorgeous park--especially in the spring when the rolling hills are green, the stream is full and churning wildly, and the lupines and poppies are in bloom.
This restaurant has had rave reviews in the San Francisco Chronicle. It serves some of the best sushi and sashimi you will taste. The ambiance is sleek, elegant and Asian.

I just thought that this was the coolest place ever when I was a kid. This was Vallejo's "ranchero" away from home (he mostly resided in the town of Sonoma with his wife). I still think that this two story adobe brick structure with its outdoor Mexican ovens and authentic artifacts and furniture is pretty darned neat.

I am the Vice President of an international, non-profit conservation organization, Save the Turtles, Inc. My eight years as a hands-on VP has provided me with plenty of experience writing web content, proposals, ad copy, brochures, fliers, promotional material, letters of inquiry (the list could go on and on.) Writing for Save the Turtle's website has provided me with great exposure to the concepts and practices of SEO. It seems that we have done rather well as our Google ranking is most often number one on the page. Although, I am still on the board of Save the Turtles and every bit as passionate about saving endangered species as ever, I am currently also enjoying another incarnation as a freelance writer. I love, love, love writing travel blogs! Lately, I have been writing for Uptake.com. and Mynatour, an eco-travel site based in London. I have also written an number of articles for other sites covering such wide-ranging topics as health, food, real estate, and science. My goal, with each writing assignment, is to match each clients individual needs by writing with an appropriate "voice" and level of readability for each unique, target audience.
