Ontario Weekend on a Budget

It's hard to find anything that's real expensive in this heart-of-the-Inland-Empire city...not impossible, just hard...so a weekend on a budget is a breeze. If you're flying in, make sure your destination airport is ONT, not LAX, so you'll end up right here.

When looking for a budget hotel, we don't automatically go for the lowest price. Sure, we want a good rate but we also want a good neighborhood, a clean comfortable room, and amenities that give us bang for the buck. When looking for a budget hotel, we don't automatically go for the lowest price. Sure, we want a good rate but we also want a good neighborhood, a clean comfortable room, and amenities that give us bang for the buck. This homey hotel features large rooms and suites equipped with king and queen size beds, a full hot breakfast, pool, internet access, large TVs in each room, exercize facility and more. It's located right across the street from the mammoth Ontario Mills mall where you can shop till your wallet drops. Rates start at around $75.
A very large, indoor outlet mall that you can shop at all day. With entertainment options such as over 50 screens of movie theaters, Dave 'n Busters, and a comedy club. Dozens of restaurants, mostly chains, such as Fuddruckers, Rainforest Cafe, BJ's, and Famous Daves lie on the massive property.
The highlight is the old, perfectly preserved minor league stadium built in 1935 with covered wooden stands.
For a different angle on a budget dinner, come to this little Portuguese restaraunt in nearby Claremont where you can get an exceptional dinner for under $10. I like when they have bife de Portuguesa, a steak topped with an egg, to go with one of their wonderful wines. It's way in the corner of the Von's shopping center at Mills and ... More >

It's way in the corner of the Von's shopping center at Mills and Baseline, so look hard for it. It'll be worth it.
Although there is no shortage of large water parks in the area, none will be as light on your budget as this county park. 150 acres of swimming, fishing, boat rentals, and water slides. It's a bargain at $7 per vehicle ($10 on weekends). Extra fee for fishing.
The city maintains a gem of a park, John Galvin Park, at 4th Street and Grove Avenue. The highlight is the old, perfectly preserved minor league stadium built in 1935 with covered wooden stands. Come on a Saturday night during baseball season and take a big step back in time. A very good taco stand sets up just outside the entrance for snacks. Free.
While that's interesting (and free!), come here for their concerts where musicians set up in the small space in the back and give incredible acoustic performances in a tiny, intimate space.
