Top 6 Things to do in Oakhurst

Oakhurst is a lucky town to be so close to so much beauty. Summer is coming and with it, a zillian tourists, who will descend upon the Yosemite Valley. I don't know about you, but I tend to stay away from all of that as much as possible. Yet, I can't keep away from that magnificent valley for long. So, what I like to do is set up camp in a nice town like Oakhurst and check out the surrounding beauty (there's a lot of it). Then one day--a weekday preferably--I will sneak into the valley to catch some of that glorious Yosemite vibe, soak up all I can, then ditch the tourists and return to my outlier hotel. Works for me.

This is a really lovely hotel and a convenient point of departure for you as you tour Yosemite and surrounding area. The hotel is actually quite reasonably priced considering how close you are to the Yosemite Valley. This is also a dog friendly inn. Bingo.
Rent horses at the Wawona stables (just a half mile from the hotel) and take a two hour guided trip or a half day ride to Chilnualna Falls. The stables open March 27th. Be sure to book well in advance.
I personally think that this is one of the most amazing and incredible spots on the face of the earth.
The food is delicious, if bit pricey. Enjoy lunch on the beautiful veranda. If you stay in the Wawona Hotel you need go no further for dining that the dining room to eat. They also have an excellent buffet breakfast.
You could never make anyone understand just how gorgeous this hike is with words. Photos tell the story a little better, but not much. You just have to hike the 4 miles to see for yourself. I personally think that this is one of the most amazing and incredible spots on the face of the earth.

Yep, you'll be "steppin' back in time" as the railroaders like to say. This is a fine 4 mile rail excursion near Yosemite' s southern gate. Take a rail car or the logger steam train. Better yet, get on board for the "moonlight special".

After a hard day of horseback riding or hiking stop by A Jackalopes Bar & Grill in the Tenaya Lodge for some very satisfying vittles and brews. The burgers and steaks are top quality and the atmosphere tells you that you are not far from Yosemite. More

I am the Vice President of an international, non-profit conservation organization, Save the Turtles, Inc. My eight years as a hands-on VP has provided me with plenty of experience writing web content, proposals, ad copy, brochures, fliers, promotional material, letters of inquiry (the list could go on and on.) Writing for Save the Turtle's website has provided me with great exposure to the concepts and practices of SEO. It seems that we have done rather well as our Google ranking is most often number one on the page. Although, I am still on the board of Save the Turtles and every bit as passionate about saving endangered species as ever, I am currently also enjoying another incarnation as a freelance writer. I love, love, love writing travel blogs! Lately, I have been writing for Uptake.com. and Mynatour, an eco-travel site based in London. I have also written an number of articles for other sites covering such wide-ranging topics as health, food, real estate, and science. My goal, with each writing assignment, is to match each clients individual needs by writing with an appropriate "voice" and level of readability for each unique, target audience.
