Newark Weekend with the Kids

The Newark-Silicon Valley area has some great activities for kids so, why not book a room at the local Courtyard by Marriott and check out the area? You can't go wrong with great old kid-friendly activities like visiting the Winchester Mystery House or the Rosaecrusian Egyptian Museum (which has real mummies). Round off the fun by visiting Silliman Family Aquatics for some budget water fun for the whole family.

If you are looking for a clean place to stay--with a nice pool for the kids--that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg, this three star hotel is a great choice. If budget isn't an issue and you want something more high-end, I suggest the W Sllicon Valley, which is also in Newark.
This nice little water park is great for families on a budget. There are indoor heated facilities so you can go even in the middle of winter. Facilities are good for small to larger kids (including adults). Bring lunch, but remember no glass is allowed in the area.

You could get lost forever in this quirky Victorian house. Secret passageways, stairways that go on and on, one can only wonder at the twisted and eccentric mind behind this spooky monolithic maze. Keep up with the tour group or you may disappear "forever". Boo!
This is an incredible little Egyptian museum (and planetarium). The architecture was inspired by the Temple of Amon at Karnak. Yes, you will find real mummies here and lots of other treasures. In fact, this museum houses the largest exhibit of Egyptian artifacts in western America.
Inn-N-Out is probably the best of the big burger chains (hey, the meat actually tastes like meat here) and it is a good place to go with a gaggle of finicky kids. This place is clean, efficient, economical and mui popular! Good old American drive-through hamburgers and fresh hot (yes, I said hot) fries.

If you are looking for some exceptionally good food then this place is for you. Filipino families seem to think so too (if their frequent presence at Barrio Fiesta is any indication). The atmosphere is lively and tropical and kids typically have a blast here. More

I am the Vice President of an international, non-profit conservation organization, Save the Turtles, Inc. My eight years as a hands-on VP has provided me with plenty of experience writing web content, proposals, ad copy, brochures, fliers, promotional material, letters of inquiry (the list could go on and on.) Writing for Save the Turtle's website has provided me with great exposure to the concepts and practices of SEO. It seems that we have done rather well as our Google ranking is most often number one on the page. Although, I am still on the board of Save the Turtles and every bit as passionate about saving endangered species as ever, I am currently also enjoying another incarnation as a freelance writer. I love, love, love writing travel blogs! Lately, I have been writing for Uptake.com. and Mynatour, an eco-travel site based in London. I have also written an number of articles for other sites covering such wide-ranging topics as health, food, real estate, and science. My goal, with each writing assignment, is to match each clients individual needs by writing with an appropriate "voice" and level of readability for each unique, target audience.
