Out and About in Mountain View

For a suburban Bay Area city, Mountain View has quite a bit going on! From the lively downtown scene to some beautiful parks, there's something for everyone no matter the time of year.

Castro Street is the beating heart of the city, lined with restaurants, bars, and shops. Many of these are Asian in flavor, but you can find just about anything from pizza to pad thai in downtown Mountain View.
Large and wide open, Shoreline Park is a peaceful place for a long walk or bike ride. Given the wetland scenery, you'd never guess that the park is actually a restored landfill area. There are also a golf course, boathouse, and concert venue on the grounds.
The fish is fresh, the atmosphere congenial, and it all comes at a reasonable price.
Hotel Zico is a trendy, upscale place with all the Silicon Valley comforts you could want. Guests get access to a complimentary cooked breakfast, high-speed wireless, a fitness center, and more. Prices are higher than at chain motels, but the atmosphere is noticeably nicer, too.

This is the largest and most accessible movie complex in the Mountain View area. With lots of screens, a full concessions department, a huge parking lot, and an arcade, it's locals' favorite place to catch first-run movies.
This Castro Street sushi boat restaurant has been a Mountain View institution for at least twenty years. The fish is fresh, the atmosphere congenial, and it all comes at a reasonable price. Kids should keep an eye out for the free lollipops that sometimes circulate on the back of the boats.
