Shoreline Lake is the perfect place to take advantage of the warm Mountain View weather. The aquatic center rents out pedalboats, rowboats, canoes, kayaks, and bikes for reasonable prices, and the wind is great for qualified windsurfers or just for flying a kite. If you're hungry, come by the cafe. You can eat indoors with great views of the lake, or you can order a picnic basket to take outside onto the grass, or even onto one of the pedalboats! If you're into golf, the golf course is literally right next door, and if the lakeside trail isn't enough of a walk for you, keep going -- the trail connects and continues through the wildlife refuge area in the marshlands.

The Ames Exploration Center brings space a little bit closer. Go see a genuine rock brought back from the surface of the moon, explore the terrain of Mars, or check out a genuine astronaut capsule. The must-see attraction for the museum is their immersive theater, with a giant screen and interactive models that make you feel like you're really participating in an exploratory adventure to Mars. Kids and adults will both love this place, and best of all, it's open to the public for free.
