Morro Bay Weekend on a Budget

A half century ago, someone decided what this town needed was a huge power plant at the end of town. The view to the north is definitely diminished, but it also helps keep the prices down at this lovely, fun, and even pretty (if you look in the other direction) Central Coast beach town. With hardly any effort at all, Morro Bay can be a very budget friendly beach getaway.

While waterfront rooms here are still a bit spendy, a block away are many more reasonable price accomodations. Sure you could go up the road to the fast food chains for a cheap lunch, but you can eat on the waterfront, with a nice beef dip sandwich and a cold German beer for around $10. What a deal! It's very delicious too. This is my favorite lunch in Morro Bay, regardless of the price.

Yeah, it's seen better days but serves its purpose as a rehab facility for injured sea life in the area. At only $2 for adults, a dollar for kids, spending a few minutes with the sea lions here is worth the price of admission all in itself.
Get lost! This service will take you to a secluded beach, drop you off for a picnic, and come back later to pick you up. With many beaches unreachable by car along the strand, there are many places to reach your inner Robinson Crusoe. Well worth the $10.
Not just a garden center, it's also an art gallery and has one of the largest collections of eclectic garden fountains I've ever seen. Great place to shop and maybe take one home for your own backyard.

I'm going here for one reason, and one reason only...Spooner's Cove. This beautiful and secluded beach is a great place to spend the day and IS a lonely beach you can reach with your car. Be sure to pack everything you need because you're not going to be able to buy it here. Located within Monaa de Oro State Park . More
