Marina Del Rey With Kids

Marina Del Rey is home to the largest marina in the Los Angeles area. It's close to the airport and beaches, and there's lots to do. Our family keeps a sailboat there. We live pretty far away, so whenever we do visit our boat we wind up spending the whole day, so we've investigated most of the nooks and crannies of the town.

The Foghorn Harbor Inn is an assuming smaller hotel that is not right in the middle of the main hotel area. It's in a quieter part of town (at least at night) and there are balconies overlooking the marina from every room. They frequently run specials, too. Their location is great for kids because it is adjacent to Mother's Beach.
The proper name for Mother's Beach is Marina Beach, but since it is protected from the ocean by the marina, it is sheltered from surf. There is a swimming area defined by floats and a lifeguard watching the tots. Plenty of sand and a play structure with a boat make this a great day for the whole family.
Waterside is a newly renovated shopping center across from the marina.
A string of shops and restaurants that has live entertainment on the weekends and plenty of proprietors that will let you rent a boat, or a bicycle, or take a ride on a party cruise, Fisherman's Village is where to go to stroll, window shop, or get an ice cream cone.

At night the outdoor seating is accented with fire pits and a gorgeous view of the marina.

Kids ride their bikes on the wide concrete pathways. People make wishes in the Spanish fountain at the park's entrance. It's a beautiful place to see and experience.
