A Long Beach Weekend With Kids

There's a ton of stuff to do with the family in Long Beach, the home of the biggest port in Southern California. It's a big city that anchors what we call the "South Bay" of Los Angeles. There are events and attractions and outdoor options and lots of food!

This hotel is actually called Hotel Current, and it just re-opened in November, completely redone. It offers a courtesy shuttle all over Long Beach (well, within a 5-mile radius) a heated pool, and allows pets. Rates range from $99 to $150. The location, which is near the golf course and not on the water, makes it more affordable.
The Aquarium of the Pacific is the only major aquarium in the area and it doesn't disappoint. The kids just love it, and with movies, special exhibits and events, and a great grounds for photo opportunities, this is a wonderful spot to spend time. You can rent one of these ships for a special event like a wedding or party, too.
The Queen Mary is a floating museum, a preserved specimen of a luxurious ocean liner from the 1930's. Buy a first class ticket and you can stroll the decks on a behind-the-scenes guided tour. You can actually stay in the "hotel" and eat in the restaurant too.
Along 2nd street in a little corner of Long Beach, Belmont Shore is the "small town" section of the area. Shops and restaurants line the quaint streets. There are bakeries, a cheese store, and fun places to pop in and shop.
Dine on the water on a Spirit Marine harbor cruise. You can rent one of these ships for a special event like a wedding or party, too. Cocktails, dessert, and dancing take place after dinner on the top deck under the moon and stars.
Shops and restaurants line the quaint streets.
The Long Beach Symphony Orchestra has been around since 1938 and continues a long storied tradition of bringing classics to the South Bay and doing concerts and events for the holidays.
