Laguna Niguel Splurge

Laguna Niguel is a tony beach town in Orange County, south of Los Angeles. It's my family's favorite place right now since we recently spent a relaxing weekend there. Sun, surf, sunsets, and beauty all around. There are lots of things to do but mostly it's just pretty, pretty, pretty.

You can get there by walking down the long, steep driveway, or you can hail a Beach Butler truck and it will drive you down, complete with chairs and umbrella and any other beach toys you might need. On the house. The rooms are tastefully appointed, the pools are pristine, the bars and restaurants are sumptuous, and the sunsets are divine. It's a true indulgence. Something for the bucket list, for sure.
Experience something truly unique with this marine life tour aboard a catamaran. At the right times you can get right into a pod of dolphins or even whales. The ship is outfitted with special listening tools so you can hear the whale songs.

Nothing says opulence like a village of high-priced brand name storefronts. South Coast Plaza is a city unto itself, preferring to be called a "destination" rather than a high end mall. The Plaza houses a VIP lounge and offers valet parking. You know, so your expensive rental doesn't have to mingle with the cars of the masses.

Down the hill from the Ritz Carlton along PCH, you'll descend into Dana Point Harbor. Dana Point itself was named after a rich merchant sailor who captained a ship that collected the skins of animals for trading. The hunters would skin the animals at the top of the cliff and then fling them down to the ship below. Nice, right? Well, the harbor is still there even Captain Dana and all those poor animals are gone. There are events year-round, great shopping and dining, and many places that will take you sailing or rent you some watercraft.
There is no reason to head inland for a romantic, decadent meal. The Loft at Montage has a luxurious dining room overlooking the ocean that offers outdoor seating as well. This place is known for its amazing service. You get what you pay for here.
