Family Weekend in Larkspur and Corte Madera

Lovely Larkspur and Corte Madera sit at the foot of majastic Mount Tamalpais. Larkspur has a quaint little downtown with a wide array of shops and restaurants, whereas Corte Madera has two shopping centers, situated across the freeway from one another. Both towns have miles of scenic bike paths and hiking trails to explore. The weather here is temperate for most of the year, making this a great area to enjoy the outdoors.

Great, fun restaurant in Town Center in Corte Madera. This place has delicious food with an Asian flair, and a wonderful ambiance with an island feel. They play a lot of Hawaiian music, which takes me right back to Maui. My kids love their fish and chips, and my husband and I love the fresh sushi.

This restaurant is locally-owned and very popular with local townsfolk as well as celebrities. The food is tempting Italian fare, and the pizza is outstanding. The owners are very friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and cozy. On a recent Tuesday night, the place was crowded and lively. Actor Robin Williams is a common fixture here.
The Left Bank is a nice mix of upscale and casual. The food is excellent, and the atmosphere is relaxed. My husband and I went here on New Year's, and I liked it because it was lively but not packed. There was a small jazz band, a waitress was handing out hats and noise-makers, and we could still get a seat at the bar at 11:30. Ano... More >

Another night I went with a big group of friends, and we got the back room to ourselves, which was nice because we could talk and laugh and make a ruckus without disturbing anyone.
I love this place. It never ceases to amaze me that just a half hour or so from San Francisco, you can be in this beautiful place surrounded by nature. I love this place. It never ceases to amaze me that just a half hour or so from San Francisco, you can be in this beautiful place surrounded by nature. The 4 1/2 mile hike around the lake is my favorite, and is suitable for kids, with areas of sun and shade, and small dips and climbs. In addition, there are many other hikes to choose from, as Phoenix Lake is located at the base of Mt. Tampalpais, a hiker's paradise, and the place where the mountain bike was invented! Parking can be challenging, especially on the weekends, when you may have to park out on the roads and hike in.
