Top 6 Things to do in Concord

If you are visiting the Concord area be sure to stay someplace with a pool like the Hilton Concord. It's hot there in the summer! Last time I was in the area I went to the Black Diamond Mines Regional State Park for my daily constitutional. The hills were a brilliant shade of green and the lupines were in bloom. I always recommend a visit the John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez to see the 9 acre estate where he lived. On your way back to Concord take a detour to Port Costa to eat at the romantic, otherworldly, Bull Valley Restaurant.

This is a clean hotel with comfortable beds and a nice atrium. The decor needs some updating to keep up with the price but there are a lot o nice features like a hot tub and a pool, easy access to Bart and friendly staff.
This pretty park (previously coal mines) offers some shady trails which is great in the summer. Spring is a great time to hike here (or anywhere in California). The sun is not too hot, the hills are green and typically you can see wildflowers like California Poppies, lupines and a whole array of native blooms.
It's worth the lovely, longish drive because this is one of the most romantic restaurants you will find.
This 9 acre park was naturalist John Muir's home with his wife and children. The visitor center is undergoing reconstruction and will be opening in its new form with expanded exhibits by mid May. Meantime, this park is still open for business. See artifacts of Muir's personal belongings, photos, and specimens of nature he collected.... More >

Take docent led tours to see wildflowers and birds of the area.
Bull Valley is an old stone restaurant lies off the beaten path in the tiny--almost remote--town of Port Costa. I say "almost remote" because this town is in the heart of the Bay Area; although, if you were blindfolded for the ride over you'd never guess it. Eat all the fresh popcorn you want while you sit by the fire (unless its warm out, of course). Yeah, this is a chain restaurant but I am adding it in here because it is a good place for families with kids.

Six Flags is a pretty good theme park and a great place to take the family. There are plenty of rides and sea mammal performances and other animals to delight the kids for at least couple of days. More

I am the Vice President of an international, non-profit conservation organization, Save the Turtles, Inc. My eight years as a hands-on VP has provided me with plenty of experience writing web content, proposals, ad copy, brochures, fliers, promotional material, letters of inquiry (the list could go on and on.) Writing for Save the Turtle's website has provided me with great exposure to the concepts and practices of SEO. It seems that we have done rather well as our Google ranking is most often number one on the page. Although, I am still on the board of Save the Turtles and every bit as passionate about saving endangered species as ever, I am currently also enjoying another incarnation as a freelance writer. I love, love, love writing travel blogs! Lately, I have been writing for Uptake.com. and Mynatour, an eco-travel site based in London. I have also written an number of articles for other sites covering such wide-ranging topics as health, food, real estate, and science. My goal, with each writing assignment, is to match each clients individual needs by writing with an appropriate "voice" and level of readability for each unique, target audience.
