Jenner Weekend with the Kids

Instead of theme parks this year, how about taking the kids to a place where they can form an intimate bond with the natural world. Jenner is a unique seaside town where nature's forces come together. The Russian River empties into the sea below the town leaving a sand bridge that is favored by harbor seals. Whales can be seen offshore in season. Visit Fort Ross and provide the kids a window into California's diverse history or travel down the coast a bit and visit U.C. Davis Marine Lab to see amazing local sea life.

Beautiful Jenner Inn is located where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean. Charming, cozy cottages are secreted throughout town, both along the riverfront and high above the village, on hills that over-look the river and ocean panorama.
All the locals know that this is a great restaurant. Perched directly above the mouth of the river as it empties into the sea, the view is a feast your eyes.
Aquarium displays reveal the secret and surprising life-forms that thrive in the ocean of the Sonoma Coast. This is an experience that you and the kids will find fun and educational.
Named for the rock that looks like a goat feeding from the sea, Goat Rock offers more than just a beautiful beach. It is a sanctuary for Harbor seals. Most days, if you walk out to where the beach meets the river you'll see them sunning themselves on the sandbar. Bring binoculars to see them up close and personal.
Named for the native Indians of the region, Pomo Canyon Campground provides an awesome (moderately difficulty) family hiking trail. You will ascend through the redwood forests to rolling hills of green until at last, you descend to shell beach.
Fort Ross provides an incredible look back to the days when California was truly the untamed west. Laying between verdant mountains and the raw sea, the setting for this historic Russian colony is gorgeous. Take the tour and peruse the visitor center. This trip is well worth a day's outing.

I am the Vice President of an international, non-profit conservation organization, Save the Turtles, Inc. My eight years as a hands-on VP has provided me with plenty of experience writing web content, proposals, ad copy, brochures, fliers, promotional material, letters of inquiry (the list could go on and on.) Writing for Save the Turtle's website has provided me with great exposure to the concepts and practices of SEO. It seems that we have done rather well as our Google ranking is most often number one on the page. Although, I am still on the board of Save the Turtles and every bit as passionate about saving endangered species as ever, I am currently also enjoying another incarnation as a freelance writer. I love, love, love writing travel blogs! Lately, I have been writing for Uptake.com. and Mynatour, an eco-travel site based in London. I have also written an number of articles for other sites covering such wide-ranging topics as health, food, real estate, and science. My goal, with each writing assignment, is to match each clients individual needs by writing with an appropriate "voice" and level of readability for each unique, target audience. Please feel free to scroll and read!
