Weekend with the Kids in Big Basin State Park

Less that and hour from San Francisco, Big Basis Redwoods State Park is a great park to take the kids this summer. Whether you camp or stay at the nearby Redwood Croft Inn, you can still enjoy these amazing old growth giants as well as the lovely trails and wildflowers. Another cool thing about Big Basin is all of the waterfalls. There are quite a few for you and the kids to discover here.

To camp here you need to make reservations in advance. Call Reserve America at 800-444-PARK (7275). You can choose one the the Park's large family tent structures ($65 per day),regular campsites, or RV hookup site. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring and food storage box.
You will be guided along the trail to Berry Creek Falls by a docent who will explain the features of the park along the way. This strenuous 11 mile loop is worth the effort in order to see this gorgeous waterfall. Go in the spring when the falls are fullest and be sure to take plenty of water and a picnic lunch.
This inn, set in a beautiful forest, offers kid and dog friendly accommodations with a fenced 2 acre garden area with grass and native plants.

This is great Chinese food right in the little town of Boulder Creek. Nothing super unusual here: Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Sweet and Sour Pork, the usual deep fried options and vegetable dishes, but they are nicely prepared and delicious.
The locals at Bolder Creek really swear by their own Round Table Pizza franchise. As you know, even franchises can differ wildly based on management. This Round Table stands apart in taste, crust, options and even ambiance. The kids will love it.

Take a guided hike up Ocean View Summit (bring water and lunch). You will see flowers in spring and mountain streams on the way to the summit where it the weather is clear, you will see the Pacific Ocean. Too strenuous for the kids? Don't worry, the park docents offer many easier but equally rewarding hikes. See http://bigbasin.org/activitiesmain.html More

I am the Vice President of an international, non-profit conservation organization, Save the Turtles, Inc. My eight years as a hands-on VP has provided me with plenty of experience writing web content, proposals, ad copy, brochures, fliers, promotional material, letters of inquiry (the list could go on and on.) Writing for Save the Turtle's website has provided me with great exposure to the concepts and practices of SEO. It seems that we have done rather well as our Google ranking is most often number one on the page. Although, I am still on the board of Save the Turtles and every bit as passionate about saving endangered species as ever, I am currently also enjoying another incarnation as a freelance writer. I love, love, love writing travel blogs! Lately, I have been writing for Uptake.com. and Mynatour, an eco-travel site based in London. I have also written an number of articles for other sites covering such wide-ranging topics as health, food, real estate, and science. My goal, with each writing assignment, is to match each clients individual needs by writing with an appropriate "voice" and level of readability for each unique, target audience. Please feel free to scroll and read!
