Cancun, Mexico is the Place to Be

The weather is beautiful. Wish I was here.

The main difference between these people and the rest of us is that they are sipping Coronas on the beach in Cancun, Mexico and we are not.

Other than that it’s just a normal Wednesday for all of us.

That hardly seems fair.

Cancun beaches offer the best in family fun, romantic vacations, mancations, girls getaway or swingin’ singles (so I’ve heard). Many of the resorts in Cancun (and throughout the entire Mexican coast) have great all-inclusive deals that make a Mexican vacation much more affordable than you would think — unless you think it is free, then it would be more than you think.

Don’t think of this as today’s Wordless Wednesday post. Think of it as today’s Where I Need to Go post. And then open a Corona.

Vacation Planning Is So Overrated

This post comes to us from our good friend Marsha Takeda-Morrison, aka Sweatpantsmom, of the UpTake Getaway Crew Los Angeles. Read and relate!

On a January day earlier this year my family and I were busy getting ready to go on a short vacation. My husband was getting the car ready, my two daughters were busy packing their suitcases and arguing over hairbrushes. I was giving our housesitter some last minute instructions before she arrived the next morning. There was only one detail we still hadn’t figured out.

We had no idea where we were going.

It’s true. We knew we would be gone for around five days but hadn’t yet decided if we were going to north to beautiful Santa Barbara, or south to a sunny San Diego. There was the possibility we’d venture a little further and head out to Flagstaff, a town we’d visited before and loved. Then again, Lake Arrowhead sounded kind of good, too. Oh wait – then there were those volcanoes in Brazil we wanted to see.

The worst part was trying to explain to family and friends who were asking where we were headed – they all sounded way more frantic about our lack of planning than we did. Most people we know plan their vacations down to the last second, including when and where they’ll be eating all of their meals, so the thought that we were leaving the next day without any firm plans was causing hysterics all around. My worried mom was calling almost hourly to see if we’d decided – apparently our indecision was making her blood pressure skyrocket.  Read More »

The Big Heavy – N’awlins

You don’t get a lot of sleep when there are 5 people on the bus. But you do get a lot of laughs. Sleep you can find anywhere, so it’s a fair enough trade. All of us except Tim, who’s been fighting off something for the past few days, got up early. Robin, Kate and I dropped off Collin to go try and quickly download an iPhone app for his golf (in)ability before playing 18 and we headed over to the Lower 9th Ward, which is – if you don’t know – the hardest hit area of Katrina.
