Is Your Vacation Safe From Swine Flu?
It’s not just schools that are thinking about the spread of Swine Flu.
Travelers all over the world are talking about how safe their vacation plans are with the widespread H1N1 virus on the loose. Theme parks are of particular concern for families as they debate whether or not to cancel their trips to some of the happiest places on earth.
Places like Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida are known for their rides and attractions. But they are also home to thousands of international tourists, crowds and close encounters with other guests and costumed characters. In other words, it’s a potential gold mine for germs!
Rest assured, park officials at most major theme parks are taking extraordinary precautions to keep their tourist havens safe. Disney World has installed over 200,000 individual hand sanitizing stations across the parks. Employees are being vaccinated and taught to closely monitor whether guests they come in contact with show signs of illness, and how to respond accordingly with things like costume changes. (If you sneeze on Goofy, he’s going to be changing his shirt.)
Experts at the CDC say that theme parks aren’t necessarily any more dangerous than any place else, pointing out that there are numerous opportunities for people to catch the H1N1 virus during their normal day to day activities.
There are, of course, a few things you can do to help stay health while you travel.

The Mississippi River Bridge Looking Into Louisiana from Vicksburg, MS
Today’s travel tip is brought to you by that oft overlooked arm of the travel industry, The Office of Tourism. What office, you may be asking? Pick your state I answer, for every state has one. The purpose of the tourism office in a particular state is to encourage vacationing, visiting by both residents and non-residents. They help to promote the economy by promoting the tourism industry within their respective states. Some offices even manage the state’s park systems.
They have information. Lots and lots of information. And that’s what we really need when planning a trip. Where to go, what to do, what to eat, schedules of events and festivals.

This is an American Airlines gate in the Seattle-Tacoma airport that was hand-decorated by American Airlines employees on their own time. The gate is where one child’s dream vacation started earlier this month as they boarded their WishFlight. Read More »

Rolling Clouds and Leaves of Fall Outside of Seattle
I’m not going to lie. I took these photos in my front yard about 30 minutes ago. Sue me.
The point is that there are many reasons to get in your gas-guzzling car and drive around our wonderful nation right now, namely really pretty trees. Read More »

It should come as no surprise that women are much, much smarter than men. But with that being said, my attempts at making my girlfriend drive me all over the greater Los Angeles area to find locations from my favorite films backfired yesterday.
It was mean.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
As I mentioned earlier, I have begun this ‘entitled’ project all over the area, finding the places that I feel like I deserve to see while I’m here. We’ve covered Swingers and True Romance, and I plan on finding a few more.
But when I found out that not far from where I lived was a school that was the local for a handful of my favorite films, I had to go.
When you first get to Marshall High School, you can immediately tell why it was constantly popping up in the cinema, what with its massive entryway and tree-lined yards. But a quick walk around the premises and you’ll start to remember the scenes that were shot here: Read More »

The W is for woof.
Earlier this week I had the opportunity to stay at the W Hotel in beautiful San Diego. My mixed feelings on that will come out in a later post. Hey, that’s like suspense!
On the corner outside of the hotel’s main entrance you will find this water station for your canine companion, which is a nice touch. Downtown San Diego is great for walking, which means yours dogs bark and your dogs get thirsty.
Seeing as right inside the lobby the price of water jumps up about $6 per bottle, you may want to sneak a sip or two for yourself. It’s a recession, people.

The first time I was offered a ticket to San Juan Capistrano’s Mission, it was by my Mother. Who was with her Sister. It was a nice gesture, but being single and broke, I chose to go ahead and let them go, less that be the final straw in the crumbling fortress that was originally my self-confidence.
7 years later, I found myself slightly better and decided to take the trip down from Los Angeles as a statement of my healing.
I was 33, making ridiculous money from blogging articles like these and was ready. Read More »
