S.A.M. I Am

The Seattle Art Museum, or S.A.M. for short, is a great place to spend a rainy day in the Emerald City — or a sunny day should you chance upon it.

What? It could happen.

Not only does the museum feature some the world’s best art (permanent and touring exhibitions), but it also has a number of interactive and family-friendly activities for the little art lover(s) in your family. There’s something for everyone!

This post is part of the UpTake Monday Museums, Monuments and Memorials Series.

Travel Around the Internet

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water… it’s another round of Travel Around the Internet! (no sharks were harmed in the writing of this post).

Here’s how it works. We look at stuff on the internet and then tell you about it. It saves you time and keeps us from working too hard. it’s a win-win!

If you would like to see your travel-related link featured on UpTake contact us via the Editor’s email link in the right sidebar. We’ve also been known to Twitter.

And here we go:

GQ’s guide to Seattle isn’t really just for men.

Marc and Angel Hack Life share 54 lessons from 14 years of travel.

Frommer’s ranks some hotel rooftop bars, because they found a way to get paid to drink. Well played, Frommer’s.

USA Today thinks people won’t travel this Labor Day.

National Geographic lists 20 places in the U.S. to see animals FOR FREE (not counting your neighborhood park).

Lonely Planet talks destinations and desserts.

MSNBC reports that Irene cracked the Washington Monument.

Time, says Gadling, stands still in Texas (something I’ve often suspected).

Hurricane season is hurting cruises at CNNTravel.

New roller coasters on deck for 2012 at Jaunted.

BootsnAll lists 12 of the best train rides in the world.

CBS:Best of L.A. walks you through the Dinosaur Hall.

The Disney Blog reports on the expanding kingdom of Adventures by Disney.

And that concludes this week’s installment of Travel Around the Internet. Please note that opinions here are those of the editor and not necessarily those of UpTake, although they should be. I’ve got good opinions.

Travel well!

World’s Best Cup of Coffee

One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to try local coffee. It may be strong and bitter or sweet and smooth –  it’s amazing how unique each region’s cup can be.

Whether you are in Seattle, Paris or Istanbul, you will always find something hot and tasty to make your mornings all the more wonderful. Except in Boston, they think you buy coffee from a donut shop. But everywhere else in the world, it’s an affordable experience that is easy to savor.

Where have you had the best cup of coffee?

This post is a Wordless Wednesday entry with some discussion directly below it. And video.

That’s Some Pig Food Truck

In my old stomping grounds of Seattle the food truck rage is still catching up to the awesomeness of Portland and New York, but what it lacks in quantity it certainly makes up for in quality. Meet Maximus Minimus, the traveling purveyor of pulled-pork and veggie sandwiches. They used to park every Saturday at a local market, and my kids and I would ride our bikes over (assuming it wasn’t raining) and have a sandwich with the sweet sauce. Sweet, indeed. Also, Coke from Mexico, which, as you probably know, is the best kind — real sugar!

Finding local food trucks on your summer vacation is a great way to venture off the beaten path, meet the locals and get a taste of the area. Go hungry. Take the kids.
