This Sunday, February 5, is Super Bowl Sunday. It’s like a holiday. The big game will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Lucas Oil Stadium, which is a fantastic piece of kinetic architecture (that means it has moving parts).
Indianapolis is second only to Washington, D.C. in the number of monuments within the city, and it also features two natural waterways that run through it. Basically, it’s a pretty town.
The New York Giants will be playing the New England Patriots. Despite the Patriots playing in the same division as the Indianapolis Colts (AFC) I’m guessing that Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning, being brother to the Colts’ Peyton Manning, will garner the cheers of the hometown fans.
Remember, get to the stadium early for a good parking spot, and better yet, more time to tailgate (be responsible!).
If you’re looking for a good place for lunch and a beer check out Basey’s Downtown Grill and Spirits or Tavern on South, both are walking distance from the Lucas Oil Stadium. Also walking distance are some nice, affordable, and probably booked hotels, Comfort Suites City Centre and Holiday Inn Express.

Have a good time!

Big Lake, Arizona
Continuing where I left off…
Four – The folks who live in the places where you visit and vacation want you to love their home town. So, while travel guides and vacation packets from the local tourism bureau are all well and good, make sure that you ask around for the best things to see, places to stay, restaurants, clubs, shops, and the like. For example, my husband and I never would have experienced the Snake River Brewing Company in Jackson, Wyoming (and THE BEST wild game chili I have ever had IN MY LIFE), had we not asked a waitress to tell us where the locals like to hang out.

Ben Spies taking a practice lap at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
My husband and I had the fantastically fun opportunity to catch the MotoGP festivities at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis last weekend. Friday’s practice sessions lead to Saturday’s qualifying runs, which lead to Sunday’s races. Three classes comprising of 125cc, Moto2, and MotoGP bikes ensured for very full days of soaking up the sun, admiring the roar of the bikes and the skills of the riders, and ingesting copious amounts of track food and pricey beers (though you are allowed to bring in coolers with your own food and beverages).

2009 Final Four
March Madness seems like such a blur for me each year. In no time it goes from 64 teams looking to knock over Goliath, to One Shining Moment playing in the background. Although I block everything and everybody out over the 3 weeks known as March Madness, I’ve not once made it to an NCAA Tournament game. I know, it’s shameful. However, one of my most memorable moments comes from not attending the Natioanl Championship game itself, but actually going down to Atlanta for the Final Four weekend and attending the practices, entertainment and other side events. I was a total poser, sitting across the dining room from the Indiana Hoosiers, getting my picture made with Chris Webber and heckling Roy Williams. With this year’s Final Four in Indianapolis, it makes it easy for many East Coasters to take a weekend road trip and take in the sights and sounds of the Final Four without actually attending a game. So if you’re not actually attending the games, what can you do?
