Another Chance To Win An Orlando Vacation

It seems like I’m constantly stumbling on another travel contest offering people a trip to Orlando or a trip to Disney World.  And why not?  Orlando attracts vacationers from all over the world because it’s an incredible travel destination with plenty of things to do for everyone.

Unfortunately, not every vacation – whether to Orlando elsewhere – results in magical memories and happy snapshots.  The good news is, if you’ve suffered from a bad vacation, the good people of Visit Orlando want to give you a vacation do-over.

Or, as they call it, a Vacation Makeover.

The same people that brought us 67 Days of Smiles last year are now offering 5 customized Orlando vacation makeovers to people who share their tales of woe. The 5 winners will receive:

  • Roundtrip airfare
  • Accomodations
  • Ground transportation
  • Attraction Tickets

Travel expert Emily Kaufman, aka The Travel Mom, will help customize a vacation that meets the winners’ individual vacation challenges.  I’m not exactly sure what that means, but it sounds like a nice bonus and welcome break from the “one size fits all” dream vacation packages we’re used to seeing.

How can you win this personalized vacation makeover?

Share your vacation disaster in 500 words or less on their website. Complete rules, regulations, guidelines, and other legalese are available there as well.

Seriously, this is a whole side of travel we haven’t even talked about.

And we won’t start today. This post is a Wordless Wednesday entry.

Never Too Young To Enjoy St. Augustine

From the top of the St Augustine Lighthouse

My family and I spent a weekend in St. Augustine, Florida recently, and I was struck by the relatively few children I saw at many of the local tourist attractions, restaurants and hotels.  The oldest town in the United States was plenty busy, but the collective age of most of the tourists seemed to be just shy of qualifying for social security.  Is St. Augustine just for the retired traveler?  Not at all!  Check out some of the things my family of four did on our St. Augustine vacation.

A Nature-Lover’s Weekend In Old Florida

Old Florida

It’s hard to believe that less than 40 years ago, there was no Walt Disney World in Central Florida.  Before Orlando and the surrounding area became known for theme parks, it was a city surrounded by wetlands and citrus groves.  The plant and animal life of this southern state were an important part of Old Florida and can still be enjoyed today by visitors who step off the well worn amusement park path.
