Talbot Island State Park
A family vacation to the charming coastal town of Amelia Island Florida offers much more than sun, sand and seafood. Explore the area’s surrounding parks and historical sites during a “Coastal Treasures Tour” offered by the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island. After spending the morning soaking up the sun at the beach or relaxing by the Ritz’s oceanfront pool, head out for the three-hour coastal treasures tour, which features stops to Little Talbot Island State Park, Kingsley Plantation and Huguenot Memorial Beach Park. Hippo Sighting From The Wild Africa Trek
Many families make the family trek to central Florida at least once, and those trips to Walt Disney World can provide years of family memories. But, if your family is a bit on the more adventurous side, you can also fill your vacation memories with an African adventure (as authentic as you can get in Florida).
Your home base for your trip should be the Animal Kingdom Lodge, one of my family’s favorite Disney resorts. Although it costs extra, consider springing for a savanna-view room. You’ll be able to see animals right from your balcony. We saw loads of giraffes when we stayed there, and my children just loved it.
There are several fabulous restaurants at the Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jiko – the Cooking Place for a more fancy dinner, and the buffet-style Boma for more casual fare. Both are excellent, but make reservations in advance because they do fill up. Read More »

These are great seats!
Spring is in the air, and with it the promise of breaks and vacations. Also, the pending closeness of summer, which for everyone shopping in the kid section is synonymous with vacation. Doesn’t seem fair, really.
One of our favorite places to visit with (or without) the family is SeaWorld. And there is nobody bigger at SeaWorld than Shamu (I know, not really a fish). By bigger I mean both size and star power. Shamu is a double threat.
Personally, the Sea World park in San Diego is my favorite, but that doesn’t mean it has to be yours. There are also SeaWorld parks in Orlando and San Antonio, which makes a family trip all the easier.
Which SeaWorld do you go (or want to go) to? What’s your favorite part?

Let's give a hoot, people.
Here’s the thing, I believe the children are our future. You teach them well, and then you let them lead the way. I’m a fan of giving them a sense of pride. I think it makes it easier.
Some say that’s the greatest love of all.
I say, sorry about paraphrasing you, Ms. Houston.
The kids of Dunedin City, Florida have that pride and it is in their beautiful beaches. And they don’t want the rest of us screwing it up for them. Fair enough.
It’s too bad that other beaches don’t have this kind of local involvement. I don’t know how many times I’ve taken the family to the shore only to find a collection of trash that would make the landfill blush. Seriously, who does that?
The weather is getting warmer (in some places) and before you know it we’ll be burning our skin and losing sunglasses in the ocean. It happens. None of it warrants littering. Just ask the kids in Dunedin City. Or read their sign.
