A Fishing Story

Standing room only.

This would have been a fishing story, but it’s a Wordless Wednesday entry and they tend to frown on such things, namely the word part.

You’ll just have to trust me that this gentleman is fishing in Esteban, Galicia in Spain, and let the picture tell a thousand words (give or take a few hundred).

Travels Through San Diego Beer Country

A classic fish and chips at Anthony's

The last several years, I’ve headed out to lovely San Diego, California. My sister lives out that way and I always love the weather, the beautiful scenery and the San Diego area has just some incredible people. Instead of flying this year, I hopped in the ol’ car and hit the highway all the way from San Antonio, Texas to San Diego and back. it was an incredible drive let me tell you! The call of the open road, the chance to see more of this great country and the opportunity to ponder life was just too much to resist. This year, I wanted to incorporate my love of craft beer with my trip. I wanted to get as much as I could out of this trip, see as many craft breweries and beer bars as I could fit in a week long trip.

I arrived on A Sunday night and checked into my hotel in San Diego’s historic Gas Lamp district. Soon after I head over to meet some good friends Shanna and Sophia, for some kick butt Moroccan food at Kous Kous, fantastic conversation and some fine red wine. Kous Kous is a small and quaint little restaurant in downtown San Diego. It sits below street level and unless you’ve been there, you’ll never find it. Dim lighting, Moroccan decor and to die for food. I know, you’re wondering when the beer with rear its wonderful head? Wait no longer dear readers, for here it comes.

Salmon Days in Issaquah, WA

salmon-daysLike any good fish story, this one got away.  That’s right, you just missed Salmon Days in Issaquah, WA and you should be ashamed of yourself.  Go ahead and cry it out.  I’ll wait.

Okay, enough.  You brought it upon yourself.  Now sit still and let me tell you what you missed, aka, rub it in.

Every year about this time the salmon leave the deep, salty waters of Seattle’s Puget Sound and they start swimming.  They swim through lakes and streams and wind their way to Issaquah Creek, where the water is shallow and clear.  They swim all the way to the hatchery in which they were born, they do their thing with the eggs and the stuff and then they die.  Needless to say the salmon don’t find the occasion as festive as we do.  I watched them for hours and never saw a single party hat.
