Town Square in Prescott Arizona.

The town square in Prescott Arizona is the hub of the area’s cultural activities. My husband and I headed up there this weekend and wound up attending an art festival that we didn’t even know was scheduled (the 37th Annual Western Art Show and Sale). It’s summertime, and the event calendar is in full swing.

This is Sue, on display at the Field Museum in Chicago.

My husband and I visited the Field Museum in Chicago a couple of weeks ago, and WHAT a time we had. It was a frigid, rainy, blustery day, and we suspected that the joint would be packed just like the experience we had at the Shedd Aquarium the day before. Seven Tips for Visiting the Shedd Aquarium

Standing in line to get into the Shedd Aquarium (it took us an hour and a half).

Standing in line to get into the Shedd Aquarium (it took us an hour and a half).

The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Illinois, is an extremely popular destination for tourists and locals. To get the most out of your experience, follow these suggestions:

1. Get there early. Like, before it opens. Especially if you’re visiting on a weekend day. AND especially if the day of your visit is gray, cold, and rainy. Because everyone else will have the same great idea you had, to spend a dreary day indoors at a popular attraction.

2. Even better, buy your tickets ahead of time. If you purchase your tickets on-line, you can pick them up at the will-call window and completely bypass the admission line. The caveat is that you can’t buy tickets any later than 24 hours in advance (we thought we could buy tickets while we were stuck in line FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF, but it wasn’t possible), and tickets are not refundable. Oh, and the OTHER caveat is that you can only purchase a general admission pass on-line – any tickets to the special attractions will still need to be purchased on-site.

Kaua’i's Koloa Heritage Trail

Kuhio monument in Prince Kuhio Park

As the oldest Hawaiian island, Kaua’i  harbors the essence of traditional Hawaiian culture and history.  Under the surface of the stunning vistas and jaw-dropping natural wonders, Kaua’i offers glimpses of the rich heritage of  the Hawaiian people.  These sites are scattered all over the island so the best way to experience them is to hike or bike the 10-mile Koloa Heritage Trail.  If you’re like me and prefer leisurely hikes, I’d suggest viewing the trail over at least two days.
