The 45-foot rotunda tree in the Christmas Around the World exhibit
Experience the holiday traditions of over 50 different countries at the annual “Christmas Around The World and Holidays of Light” exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry. A Chicago tradition for 68 years, the glittering exhibit showcases trees decorated to reflect the holiday traditions from around the world through January 3. Anchored by a towering 45-foot tree in the Rotunda, the display also features intermittent snow showers. This year’s theme focuses on the holiday history of the White House, with White House-themed ornaments adorning the Rotunda tree and holiday cards signed by presidents and first ladies. Read More »

This is what you won't see at airports this holiday season.
The good folks at Orbitz were nice enough to send along a list of the U.S. airports with the heaviest amount of holiday travel. They also offered up some words of wisdom.
Their travel advice falls along the lines of flexibility, utilizing technology and staying in the know. It’s fairly straightforward common sense, but you know what a lot of people forget to pack for when traveling? Common sense. It’s true.
The list and links are provided below. Read More »

Entrance of the Du Sable Museum
Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood has gained lots of visibility as the home of President Barack Obama but he’s not the only exciting aspect of the area. This stately south side neighborhood is also home to the DuSable Museum of African American History. Named for the founder of Chicago, Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable, the museum is the first and oldest institution of its kind in the country. Located on the sprawling grounds of Washiington Park, DuSable offers a great family excursion. Enter the museum and you’re greeted with a life-sized mosaic mural of DuSable, who was a wealthy explorer and fur trader. Read More »

County Line Orchard
Grab some fall family fun with a day of apple picking at County Line Orchard in Hobart, Indiana. Apple picking is a Midwest fall tradition, with orchards offering sweet delights in Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana. For Chicago families like mine, County Line Orchard in charming Hobart, Indiana, supplies the closest orchard, at about a 40 minute drive from the city. What I love most about County Line is that it’s located in a small farming community that draws families from both Indiana and Illinois. Pick up trucks, corn fields and livestock surround the area for a quick country escape for city slickers.

Orbitz Worldwide hosted their first annual Blogger’s Day early this week at their headquarters in the beautiful city of Chicago.
Orbitz was an incredibly gracious host and really went out of their way to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of all their guests, which included some of the biggest travel blogs on the web today (yes, even us!).
There are a lot of big things on the horizon for Orbitz and they were kind enough to share them with us, unfortunately they made us pinky swear not to cover all of it. Something about swimming and cement shoes.
What we can discuss is the excitement and passion that is Orbitz and how it runs throughout the entire company. They are generally giddy over the news regarding their change in Orbitz fee policy. They are obsessed with hotels and customer service. Technology drives them. Also, coffee. Read More »

Chicago's Navy Pier
Do you have a family? Is Chicago your kind of town? Well, you’re in luck.
The Navy Pier, pictured here, is free to the public. That’s FREE. It’s Chicago’s most visited tourist attraction and has all kinds of activities and events for travelers of all ages.
The Ferris wheel, a carousel and swing ride bring the boardwalk to life. The miniature golf course, the Amazing Chicago Funhouse Maze and Chicago Children’s Museum give the area a taste that is strictly Chicago. Also, stuff to eat.
Visit Chicago. Take the kids.
UPDATE: Sorry about the Olympics, Chicago. We still dig you.
