The Sambadrome
So Rio De Janeiro’s riotous carnival is over and the considerably more sedate Lenten season is in full swing. Does that mean you can’t enjoy a touch of Brazilian carnival? Of Course not. I journeyed to Brazil during the South American winter, which meant that the carnival festivities were months away. That didn’t stop me from visiting the legendary Sambadrome, trying on costumes, listening to samba music and gorging myself on Brazilian delicacies. Win a prize!
This photo was taken in Hollingbury, Brighton, East Sussex. That’s England. Yes, it’s beautiful.
The good news is that you don’t need to travel to Great Britain (but you should) to visit this family fun fair, because, and here’s the kicker, it travels!

I know what you’re thinking, the traveling fair is still setting up in parking lots across America, and you’re right, but those tend to run towards the creepy and unsanitary. This one, however, looks like a time-loved memory. A postcard, if you will.
In the words of TV’s Liz Lemon*, “I want to go to there.”

Southwest Plane Landing
Although you won’t see a Southwest Airline plane flying out of South Carolina until next year, the state is all abuzz about Southwest’s announcement to expand service to Charleston and Greenville Airports. This comes on the heels of more big travel news for South Carolina, where Carnival Cruise Lines kicks off expanded service out of Charleston, with year-round cruising starting on May 18th. In years past, Carnival has cruised seasonally during the winter, but this marks the first time they’ve sailed year-round.
