Please keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle.
When I was a kid the school bus was a terrifying place full of wedgies, spitballs and the occasional lunchbox out the window. We didn’t even have seat belts, which means that it was unsafe in addition to the childhood traumas it transported.
I can only imagine the shenanigans floating on the school boat.
That’s right, a school boat. The children pictured above are in Bangkok, Thailand and they are boarding the boat that will take them home from school. They don’t appear to have seat belts either. Or life jackets.
However, take away the fears of my youth and the idea of traveling to and from school via boat seems almost magical. Of course that magic would fade rather quickly during the rainy season, but on a sunny day — totally awesome.
It sure beats swimming uphill. Both ways. In the snow.

Day-oh!
Move over Partridge Family, now there’s something with more potassium. Yes, it’s the infamous Banana Bus of Aruba, not falling for itself in tailpipes since 1982(ish).

Starting at 9pm Pacific Time on December 31, no fare will be charged for any service on Metro bus and rail lines. The rail lines and the Orange bus line will operate all night every 2o minutes. Regular fares start up again at 2AM on New Year’s Day (so get your drunk ass home before then or it’ll cost you $1.25 for travel in one direction).
Additionally, Metro urges you to use the Gold Line on Friday for the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game. Special shuttles will travel from the Sierra Madre Villa station to the viewing grounds where you can see the Rose Parade floats after the parade is over (12:30 to 2:30PM).
If you are not in Los Angeles, you can watch the parade on ABC, Hallmark Channel, HGTV, KTLA (Tribune), NBC, RFD-TV, Travel Channel, and Univision.

When you consider both the mustache debacle and the fact that I was given a 9mm by my brother with the Greyhound bus I was to board en route to Tim & Robin in Oklahoma City, you can imagine my mindset.
I was sneaking on a gun.
I had a dyed face.
I was on a mode of transportation that suited neither.
Funny how on the previous rides, they were the freaks. Read More »
