This Sunday, February 5, is Super Bowl Sunday. It’s like a holiday. The big game will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Lucas Oil Stadium, which is a fantastic piece of kinetic architecture (that means it has moving parts).
Indianapolis is second only to Washington, D.C. in the number of monuments within the city, and it also features two natural waterways that run through it. Basically, it’s a pretty town.
The New York Giants will be playing the New England Patriots. Despite the Patriots playing in the same division as the Indianapolis Colts (AFC) I’m guessing that Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning, being brother to the Colts’ Peyton Manning, will garner the cheers of the hometown fans.
Remember, get to the stadium early for a good parking spot, and better yet, more time to tailgate (be responsible!).
If you’re looking for a good place for lunch and a beer check out Basey’s Downtown Grill and Spirits or Tavern on South, both are walking distance from the Lucas Oil Stadium. Also walking distance are some nice, affordable, and probably booked hotels, Comfort Suites City Centre and Holiday Inn Express.

Have a good time!

You say “Nordic Museum” they say “Nordiska museet” — either way it is a great museum of Swedish cultural history from the Early Modern age to the current age, which, in theory, is even more modern.
The museum is in Stockholm, Sweden on an island known as Djurgården, or “The Royal Game Park,” which houses the popular Gröna Lund amusement park and other tourist and recreation areas.
The building was supposed to be three times its actual size and was built in the Danish Renaissance style rather than more traditional Swedish architecture. Scandal!
I’ve never been to Sweden, but it’s on my short list. I’m a sucker for Danish Renaissance style. Also amusement parks.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Today we are honoring the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with a holiday dedicated to peace and social involvement. There are festivities across America — check your local listings or Google the town you’re visiting, there’s something close to you!
In honor of the late Dr. King, here are some of his quotes, all of them as true now as the day they were first spoken:
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.
History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.
At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love.
Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
I am not interested in power for power’s sake, but I’m interested in power that is moral, that is right and that is good.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Enjoy the holiday.

Don’t let the lack of gifts fool you. The holiday season is still in full swing (for about 48 more hours, giver or take).
This display in Austin, Texas reminds us that we should keep Christmas and/or the holiday of your choice in our hearts, always. Or at least until the credit card bills arrive. Then you can pack it until next year.
How long do you keep your holiday decorations up?
This post is part of UpTake’s Family Friday Series. This month the emphasis is on holiday lighting. If you see a display worth mentioning send us a photo via the contact link in the sidebar.
