Continued from Part I…..

The Bali Packing Guide:

Sitting on in your room (or just outside it) with a hot breakfast waiting for you, and some of the most amazing and fragrant scenery it’s possible to forget where you are from (and want to stay in Bali forever)

With all these amazing surroundings, at may be possible to imagine that you are in paradise. And that nothing could disturb you! until a mosquito lands on your leg.

There are a couple things you need to bring with you; they are ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL, if you don’t have them you will wish you did.

  1. Mosquito repellent – they have this in some stores but bring the strong stuff with deet you will need it.
  2. Benadryl gel or cream – To help with mosquito bites after they happen.
  3. Afterbite – They don’t know what this is in Bali. Bring two bottles if you can. Ok seriously the mosquitoes are bad. (That’s the biggest downside)
  4. Cash – bring cash, you will get the best exchange rate
  5. Shorts, it is warm you will need comfy clothes
  6. Comfortable and breathable shoes
  7. A swimsuit
  8. A sense of adventure

Side note, check out several places to convert your money the rate can vary from .89 to .98 (that is a 9% fluctuation depending where you go). DON’T convert your cash in the airport. 1 USD = ~ 10,000 Rupiah and the best exchange booths will give you 9700 or 9800 for $1; the ones at the airport will only give you 9100 for 1 USD.

Some of the best things to do:

Adventures: There is a really cool river rafting company called SOBEK that does tours starting at $40 a person. The river rafting goes through a river canyon with exciting rapids, a waterfall you can go under (that’s amazing btw), and really friendly staff.

Surfing: ODYSSEYS surf school I heard was pretty great, I didn’t do it myself however.

Chilling out: SPAs – omg are there great SPAs. You can get a massage that is pretty amazing for less than $10 USD. The spas are all over the place. The hotel ones are often good, but they cost 10X more than the private ones. And the private ones can be just as good. Almost all the good hotels have great swimming pools – grab a book and relax the afternoon away.

Shopping: The Honeymoon Guest House has a really cool cooking class that I recommend you check-out, also a great place to stay for ~ $35-$50/night (book in advance) Speak to your travel agent or local hotel staff about great places to shop, Bali has really interesting gold and silver jewelry, if you like the hand-made, authentic style. Ok, well I’m down to 10 words left…the final word on Bali? Go To Bali Soon!
