WOo-HOo, Happy Super Bowl weekend everybody! This Sunday millions of eyes are going to be on Miami while the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts face off in Super Bowl XLIV. Exciting stuff! Miami has hosted this event 10 times. Next year the big game moves to Texas, followed by Indianapolis in 2012 and then to New Orleans in 2013.
For any trivia nerds out there, Miami is the only city in the US founded by a woman. Her name was Julia Tuttle who actually hailed from Cleveland and was a citrus farmer. I believe this is a similar story to many mid-westerners who UP-root and TAKE-off to leave the brutally cold winters for warmer pastures (ie, moi, Michigander turned Californian sans citrus except for my drink garnish). Before the city was founded the area had been inhabited for over 1,000 years by the Tequestas. Now Miami is inhabited by a plethora of cultures from the Caribbean, Central and South America. South Beach is lined with pastel Art Deco hotels and buildings unique to the skyscape. It is also a hot spot for fashion, food and music! “Come on shake your body baby, do the conga!”
Have a great weekend and if you don’t like football, there is plenty of other things to enjoy about the Super Bowl like ridiculously expensive commercials, the half time show (The Who, will be rocking it out!) and of course, if you are at a party there should be plenty of high calorie items that taste sooo good.
Goodness, I am craving Cuban food right now! Some fried yucca and a mojito would hit the spot.
