UpTake on the Green Monster

Turn up some “Drop Kick Murphey’s”,  don your Red Sox hat and drop your ‘r’s, kiddies because this month ‘Things Are Lookin’ Up” is completely dedicated to our ‘Cradle of Liberty’, ‘The Hub’,’ The Puritan City’, ‘Beantown’ or lovingly…say it with me ‘Baaaa-ston.’

Woot! I am dancing in my chair as my fingers type away. 4 weeks of Boston ‘UpTakes’ for your viewing pleasah.

Boston makes me giddy for a plethora of reasons:

#1 reason – The Boston Marathon; the oldest marathon in the world. This year will be my 4th consecutive year running this event. It is held the same day every year, Patriots Day or the 3rd Monday of April, and it is the most important day of the year..even bigger than  my birthday (`_~). There is more to come on the Marathon in Week 3. I know you are just on edge with excitement!

First let’s focus on reason #2.

#2 reason – Baseball. Major League Baseball kicked off this past Sunday at Fenway Stadium, where the red Sox took on the New York Yankees. Fenway is one of the only old school neighborhood baseball stadiums left in existence (Wrigley in Chicago is the other). The ‘UpTake’ featured here is of the ‘Green Monster’ which is the nickname of the 37 foot high left field wall. It is located 310-315 feet from home plate and is a popular target for right-handed hitters. The Green Monster, despite it’s name, was not painted green until 1947.

#3 reason – The Boston Marathon.

#4 reason – The Offices of Dewey, Cheetum and Howe located in Haaavard Square. Here we find our good friends Click and Clack  who help us with our mysterious caaar maladies on their ever popular NPR radio show “Car Talk”.

#5 reason – Bova Bakery and their world famous cannoli (yes, world famous!) located in Boston’s North End.

#6 reason – Museums and history.

#7 reason – just walking around Harvard and MIT makes me feel smarter.

and again, the Boston Marathon.

Buckle in and hang on, because before May 1st, you will have a strong craving for ‘chowdah‘ and there is only one place to go for chowdah. Boston baby!
