Tubby Tubes

After an afternoon of skiing on our second full day of our Lake George family vacation, my kids were still eager for more adventure.  Luckily, our hosts at the Fort William Henry Hotel and Conference Center had kindly set us up for a two-hour tubing session at the nearby snow park – Tubby Tubes in Lake Luzerne.  I figured we’d probably be exhausted after skiing, so we decided to delay our check-out the next day (which the hotel was happy to accommodate), and visit Tubby Tubes when they open at 10am.

After a great night sleep and a wonderful breakfast at the hotel, we dressed in our snow clothes once again, and drove a few miles down the road to Tubby Tubes.  While Tubby Tubes seems to be more well known for lake tubing in the summer, they also have a year round snow park with tubing.  In the summer, the runs are covered in a synthetic slippery material, but while we were there, they were covered with real snow.

Because it was early in the season, and they hadn’t gotten much snowfall, there were only three tracks open.  Typically, there are five or six, as well as a smaller area for little ones.  But we were still well entertained.

To go up to the track, you select a tube, then hand it off to the employee manning the lift.  You can sit in the tube, and the handle is placed on a bar that pulls you up the hill.  Then, you pull your tube over to your chosen track.  We started out in a family tube (fits 4-6 very comfortably), but eventually switched to individual tubes.  My daughter couldn’t get enough – we had to make her leave when the time came.  Generally, admission is sold in two hour blocks, although you can also purchase a day pass.  I was so impressed with the staff here – they really and truly were helpful, fun, and friendly.

When we were done, we headed back to our hotel, and got ready to drive home.  We had a wonderful time in Lake George, and my kids keep asking when we are going to go back!
