San Diego Sunset

San Diego Sunset

So you want to vacation in San Diego, huh?  Maybe you’re stuck in sub-zero weather and the snow plow has just buried your car for the fourth time this winter and then you watch the national weather report and note that it’s 75 degrees and sunny in San Diego.

But what do you need to know to get the most out of your San Diego vacation?  Well, you’ve come to the right place.  First thing you’ll need is lodging.  You can read reviews and find a hotel that’s best for you here. But what about the little stuff that you might not be thinking about?

For instance… you know you’ll be hitting the beaches when you come to San Diego.  Maybe you figure a nice romantic moment of watching the sun set into the Pacific ocean while sipping a bottle of fine wine.  Well, the sunset thing is totally the way to go.  The drinking wine thing, however, will have to wait.  Why?  Because San Diego beaches do not allow alcohol.  So come on down.  Just do it sober.

Second, did you know that San Diego has a trolley system?  It’s true! It’s a great way to get downtown and explore the seaport without the hassles of parking.  If you find a hotel in Hotel Circle in Mission Valley, a trolley stop isn’t too far away.

Another temptation when in San Diego is a day trip to Tijuana, Mexico.  But don’t be tempted.  Tijuana is the center of a drug war right now and violence and kidnappings are happening at a record pace.  Too bad, too.  Tijuana has a lot to offer when it’s safe.

Finally, when in San Diego, know your beaches.  Each beach has  a different vibe and caters to a different crowd.  Some are family friendly and some are not.  Some are wonderful places to take your dog while others are awesome to watch that sunset.  Still others are welcoming of the beginning surfer, complete with companies that offer lessons, while some beaches frown on non-locals taking over their turf.  Not sure which beach is for you?  Check out some reviews of the various beaches here.
