I have never used a travel agent to book a vacation.
I realize that means I’m missing out on insider tips, expert advice, and someone to handle any problems that may arise before, during and after my trip. But I’m cheap and controlling, so I plan my own trips. Fortunately for me, Vacation Agent magazine recently released a list of top recommendations gathered from over 100,000 travel agents all over the country.
Want to plan the best vacation? Start with these companies.
If you’re thinking about taking a cruise, Royal Caribbean was named Best Cruise Line Overall. Cruises sticking to the rivers should check out Uniworld, which received top honors in its category.
The agents’ top choice for U.S. airline was Southwest. Apparently no baggage fees and a unique boarding system is a hit among travel agents. Unfortunately, you may not find a route to your destination as Southwest’s service is still limited in some markets. However, if you plan a trip to Florida or Las Vegas – the city and state honored for having the best tourism bureaus – you’ll find numerous award-winning flights to meet your needs.
Once you get to your destination, consider getting your rental car from Enterprise, which was named Best Domestic Car Rental Company. And where should you spend the night? You have several opportunities to stay with the best. The Starwood chain, which was named best hotel chain overall, encompasses many brands, including W Hotels, Westin, Sheraton, Four Points, Le Meridien and St. Regis.
After you’ve planned the perfect vacation, you may consider insuring it. The agents have you covered there as well, naming Travel Guard the Best Travel Insurance Provider.
What do you think? Did the agents get it right? Do you let travel agent recommendations and awards guide your trip planning?
