Give up? It’s art!
Now for the hard part. Where is said art? Clues below:
If you are familiar with Mark di Suvero then you probably recognized this as his work. The guy likes his salvaged steel (who doesn’t?). This piece is called “Are Years What?” and it is dedicated to American poet Marianne Moore.
The city that features “Are Years What?” is home to LOTS of art. Lots. Some pieces can be found in museums and some are monumental. Others can be found on a plate.
The city is also well-know for what currently passes as politics.
If you guessed Washington, D.C., then you are a master of trivia and art. Or you just looked at the tags. Either way, you’re a winner and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Austin, Texas has long been a favorite destination of mine for many years. Having lived there for a few years, and now living in San Antonio, I’ve had ample opportunity to enjoy all it has to offer. It has great restaurants, plenty of places for outdoor recreation, and a laid back vibe. However for many years the craft beer industry was small, with only a few bright spots.

Black Star Co-op
The scene has changed a lot in the last ten years with breweries and brewpubs, like Uncle Billy’s, NXNW, 512 and Independence Brewing. It’s great to see this renaissance unfold. One of these recent additions to the brewing scene is Black Star Coop. I had been wanting to head over and check them out and on a recent day trip, finally got the chance.
Black Star sits just off North Lamar and Airport Boulevard in Central Austin in a mixed-use building known as the Midtown Commons, which seems right off the bat to be in line with their business approach. As the name suggests, they operate on a co-op model. A co-op usually means that they, the patrons and members of the community, either own or have the opportunity to own membership shares in the business. Since all who work at Black Star are member owners, they have a vested interest in its success.

I would never admit it in front of my children, but sometimes vandalism is funny. For instance, this street sign in Cape Tribulation, Queensland, Australia which shows that the stretch of street is a popular crossing area for the endangered Cassowary (bottom). The top sign was originally a speed bump warning.
These are the jokes, folks.
This post is a Wordless Wednesday entry with some words and a lot of laughing.
