Osprey Pack - The Fabulous Wheels in Action

Great for camping!

Being a (relatively) new transplant to the Bay Area, I embark on many weekend adventures. My enthusiasm to explore this beautiful and diverse region has taken me virgin cave mapping in Yosemite, wine tasting in Sonoma, joy-riding down Hwy 1, frolicking about San Francisco and camping galore.

One thing that has made the logistical elements of these weekend getaways a lot easier is my recent acquisition of some Osprey travel gear. I was given travel packs from both the Meridian and Sojourn series by Osprey to test and have tried them out on many of the aforementioned adventures.

These packs are fabulous! They are a hybrid between an overnight camping backpack and sturdy roller luggage packaged in durable material and a stylish design. The wheels are incredibly tough and surprisingly agile. I have wheeled them around tight corners, over forest floors and carpeted hallways and they are joyfully smooth. Gone are the days of cursing and yanking luggage along as I try to transport it to and fro. Plus, if I ever hit a terrain that the wheels can’t handle, I can pick it up, strap myself in and wear it as a backpack (the packs have well padded hip belts). Pretty cool! They both hold a lot of stuff, which is integral to an over-packer like myself, and have several side mesh pockets as well as a side fabric pocket for organization. A lot of thoughtful details went into the construction of these packs. I am constantly finding new useful features, like side pouches for water bottles and easy access side panels to access the main part of the bag without completely unzipping it. The Meridian has a pouch for your laptop and even unzips to provide a smaller day-pack, a feature that I love!

Stylish enough for Hotel Travel

As I mentioned, these packs are practical and tough but also have an attractive design and useful “urban” features. Because of this, I feel equally comfortable taking these packs car camping in Big Sur, back-country in the mountains or wheeling them through a four star hotel for a romantic San Francisco getaway. Osprey has sold me on their product. I can’t wait to test these packs out on international travel with my trip to Vietnam this February. We’ll see if they can hold up to planes, trains and motorbikes. I’ll let you know how it goes!
