Travelers also won’t want to miss Tucson’s enchanting art galleries, featuring work by dozens of talented local artists. Tucson is also home to the University of Arizona, and has the undeniable air of a college town. Like Phoenix, Tucson is surrounded by mountain ranges. To the east, you'll find the Rincon mountains, to the south the Santa Rita mountains, to the west the aptly named Tucson mountains, and to the north the beautiful Santa Catalina Mountains, which include Mount Lemmon, one the best spots for outdoor recreation in the area. The premiere tourist attraction in Tucson has to be the Arizona-Sonora Desert, which combines the elements of a natural history museum, a zoo, and a botanical garden into one amazing attraction. Visitors can get an up-close and educational look at local desert wildlife like Gila Monsters, Roadrunners, cactus wrens, and mountain lions. If you want a taste of the real wild west, plan a day trip from Tucson to one of the restored wild west towns in the surrounding area. Try a trip to Tombstone, where you can visit the real O.K. Corral. Walk the dusty streets, take stagecoach ride, or wet your whistle at one of the saloons. Just don't forget to wear your cowboy boots.
