Its thriving suburbs, including Scottsdale, Peoria, Chandler and Glendale, all offer their unique blend of southwest flavor and suburban charm. Visitors arriving in the summer months might be greeted with temperatures over 100, so be sure to add some air-conditioned adventures to your to-do list. Choose from over a dozen delightful museums in the area. The Musical Instrument Museum is a real hidden gem often outshined by some of the bigger museums in town. Still too warm? Get wet and refreshed at one of many water parks in the Phoenix area. Surrounding the Phoenix area are several mountain ranges that offer a wide variety of activities including jeep tours, mountain biking, and hiking. Get out of the urban sprawl and wander among the saguaros, see the ancient petroglyphs on Thompson Peak, or take in the beautiful vistas of Phoenix from South Mountain. Travelers will also want to try a hot air balloon ride high above the city, for a dazzling view that won’t be forgotten.
