Flagstaff Weekend With Kids

Flagstaff is Arizona's unofficial adventure town. Spend a weekend with the kids discovering the outdoors with visits to a meteor crater or that big ditch, the Grand Canyon. Later, look to the skies at the Lowell Observatory. Then, explore history in the ruins of an ancient culture at Wupatki National Monument. Tons of learning opportunities are packed into this fun travel weekend. Shh, don't tell the kids.

Paved walking trails make this trip through history an easy walk. Along the way, your kids will discover the remains of an ancient culture. Better read up. They're going to ask questions, like, "where did the people go?"
You can't come this close to the Grand Canyon without paying a visit. Riding the train from Williams is a fun way for the kids to see it, cowboys and bandits included.

Meteor Crater is one big hole in the ground that your kids are going to love. The fact that it's in the middle of nowhere, adds to the mysterious feel. The admission fee ($15 for adults, $8 for kids 6 - 17) includes three lookout points, a movie and a guided rim tour.
Your kids will peek through the same telescope that discovered Pluto. Take the 40-mile drive to the Lowell Observatory in the daytime to learn about ongoing research. But it's that night view through the telescopes that's going to leave a lasting travel memory. Admission - $8 adults, $4 kids 5 to 17.
Large rooms make Little America a good choice for a family weekend in Flagstaff. You'll need someplace to crash after all that sightseeing. The kids will appreciate the pool if you visit in the summer. The shaded grounds give kids plenty of room to work off energy too.
