OUR TAKE ON DAPHNE
Daphne is sometimes referred to as the “city on the move,” but for the locals and for the travelers who have enjoyed Daphne vacations, the more appropriate name is “Jubilee City.” Daphne is the Jubilee city not because the city celebrates every day, but because of a natural marine phenomenon that people originally considered a “rejoicing.”
This rejoicing or Jubilee happens in the summer and it is actually a gathering of aquatic life. The blue crabs, the shrimp, and the various species of fish gather together on the shallow waters. During this phenomenon, the local fishermen, as well as travelers, can easily scoop flounders, catfishes, and other marine animals. There are, of course, many theories that explain this phenomenon. After all, Daphne is just one of the few places on the planet where this natural marvel happens. The most plausible theory is that the wind directions as well as tides bring together food and debris from the Blakely, Apalachee, Tensaw, and Mobile Rivers towards the area and this is why fishes are attracted to the shallow waters. Whether this is the accurate scientific explanation or not, travelers who plan on having Daphne vacations may find their experience more memorable by coming in during this period of Jubilee. Therefore, one of the most important things to do in Daphne is to bring a basket or a bucket to scoop fishes!
